FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - State Inspections

Is a state inspection required in Texas?

Yes. DOT inspections are required for all commercial motor vehicles (CMV) that weigh more than 10,000 pounds.

How much does a state inspection cost?

A state inspection costs $40. Prices for other inspections vary.

​

What happens if my truck does not pass inspection?

The inspection fee still applies even if your truck does not pass inspection. You get one free re-inspection when you bring your truck back repaired within 15 days.

What do I need to have for a state inspection?

You will need insurance that is valid for 30 days.
